Andrei Yakovlev is one of Russia's leading experts on economic development, the author of over 200 publications, leader and participant of numerous research projects. He is a Visiting Scholar at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University, and the Senior Researcher at the Institute for Industrial and Market Studies, HSE University (Moscow).
Andrei Yakovlev's primary research interests are state-business interactions in Russia, the political economy of development, industrial policy, public procurement, and incentives for bureaucracy (with analogies to Russia and China).
He was the Director of the Institute for Industrial and Market Studies at HSE University in 1993-2022. In 2011 he founded the HSE International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID) together with Timothy Frye.
Public Work- From 1993 to 2000, member of the Commission on Commodity Exchanges under the State Anti-Monopoly Committee of Russia.

- Since 2014, member of Expert Counsil under the Government of the Russian Federation.
- From 2015 to 2019, the President of the Association of Russian Economic Think Tanks (ARETT).
